Jerome, can you introduce yourself and the One Percent Pitch?

I’m Jerome Iveson, founder of the One Percent Pitch. I help early-stage startups develop and refine their pitch decks, from inception to investor-ready. I also advise on investment readiness and startup basics, drawing from my own experience starting several businesses.

How did you get into the start-up business?

I started out as a graphic designer at a small agency but wanted to move from that service-led environment into a startup environment. My first startup was a business management tool for creators, which allowed me to channel my passion for design.

Since then, I’ve founded a microdonation platform for grassroots sports and served as a non-executive director for a fintech startup. My experience in founding, building, and scaling startups has shaped my approach to helping others.

What makes the One Percent Pitch unique?

Because I’ve been in the founder’s shoes, I understand how difficult the startup journey is. I focus on helping startups craft a clear, compelling narrative that resonates with investors. One of the biggest issues I see is founders trying to cram too much into their decks without a clear narrative. I help them strip it down and focus on what matters. It’s vital to have a concise and impactful pitch because investors only spend a few minutes reading it.

What’s been the biggest challenge in working with startups?

Investing is very trend-driven. Right now, investors are looking for the next AI win and not really paying attention to other ideas. Another big hurdle is how closely the funding landscape is tied to the economy. Early-stage funding sources, like angel investors and family, tend to shrink during tough economic times. My focus is on building a network of investors who are interested in a broad range of ideas, not just trends.

It’s all about building the right relationships. That’s also why I joined the Rhamnous Community. Communities are valuable for amplifying your message and reaching a larger audience.

How would your clients describe you?

I hope they’d say I’m easy-going but professional, with clear communication and transparency around expectations. I work collaboratively, making sure that everyone understands the process and that we’re working towards the same outcome.
