Meet Karel, also known as Ratchet online. Karel and his business partner Midas are the creative minds behind Ratchet Productions, a young and creative Video Production duo from the Netherlands.

Where did you get the idea for Ratchet Productions?

It all started with my band member Midas and myself. As a musician, one of the most important things is to be directly in contact with a caring audience that listens to your work. It’s the audience that makes your career after all. Without them, making music would be pointless.

This played a key role in our decision to specialise in social media and branding, which eventually resulted in a massive community that’s always supportive! Not only online, but also physically at every show that Ratchet gives!

What are some social media challenges that impact on your work?

The fact that popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram focus more and more on quick lifestyle and short-form content. In the broad term, this means that 'low effort' videos are equally pushed as videos with a high production quality.

It means that everyone has a chance in this new era of online space. However, what this also results in, is that videos you’ve worked on for days sometimes completely flop in comparison to some viral videos which have been made in less than a few minutes! It’s something everyone has to deal with in this new online space, and I’ve definitely had my own share of these experiences.

How would your audience describe you?

I think that our audience would best describe us as refreshing and filled with creativity. We’re open people who share our thoughts with the world, we believe that it makes us relatable, which helps the creative process!

Since we both grew up in this new online generation, we know how today’s social media works. We understand platforms like TikTok and Instagram and how to create an organic audience to take brands to the next level.

What made you decide to partner with the Rhamnous Community?

We’ve always had this dream of running our own production company. We’re currently working as freelancers and already have a lot of experience in our field. We would love to share this passion with a bigger community of like-minded people!
